Hello Fellow Hams, Vendors and Flea Marketeers,
Governor John Bel Edwards just ordered that COVID-19 Phase 2
restrictions be extended another two weeks.
After much debate the Ozone Amateur Radio Club (OARC) Hamfest
committee has decided it is best to cancel our October 9-10, 2020
Hamfest and Symposium.
This cancellation decision was not an
easy task and was made on the following:
- With schools reopening and out
of state visitors coming in to give much needed Hurricane help
to Southwest Louisiana and Southeast Texas it was predicted that
more outbreaks will convince our Governor to continue his phase
-2 orders well into October;
- we would not be able to run a
hamfest with phase-2 mandates of only 50 people in the
auditorium at one time;
- possible comorbidity factors
could keep many attendees away;
- and last, but not least, we
are concerned with the health of all our fellow hams.
We are hoping that the COVID-19 virus is
well under control by the summer of 2021. Currently we are working
with the Slidell Auditorium management to get a new contract in
place for late July of 2021. As soon as we sign the contract
we will let you know.
